Commencement du finale

Commencement du finale

Napoleon cocks his head and brings his hand to his ear to better hear the music signaling the final act of his rule. He stands in front of a puppet theater, where the final drama is being acted out. Four musicians surround Napoleon and play the score to the finale in allegro tempo. They are (l. to r.): Tsar Alexander, Emperor Franz I, the crown Prince of Sweden, and King Frederick William III. The participation of England is symbolized by the barrel of "Gunpowder" that Tsar Alexander sits on, and perhaps also by the motto "Honi Soit" inscribed on his garter. On the stage, the sovereigns of the Confederation of the Rhine exit towards the open wings. Wellington arrives in the left distance and precipitates the departure. A winged dragon bears the King of Westphalia, Jérôme Bonaparte, away. While this image differs in inscriptions from the satire cataloged in "Napoleon Im Spiegel der Karicature," the image itself is almost unchanged.
