Ney's sails are shot through with holes and the sailors in his vessel are dead and haggard. Napoleon, whose rowboat is filled with terror-stricken and haggard sailors, is enraged that Ney ordered a retreat from the British Navy. A comet with the profile bust of Horatio Nelson streaks across the sky (l. to r.) to inspire British sailors to fight under his auspices.
