Tegg's plate number is 26. George notes: 'The pl. is attributed by Broadley to 1 Jan., 1801, which is scarcely possible. Tegg's date relates only to the first reissue in 1807; it was again reissued in 1815.' This type of image is based on a popular model that imagines Napoleon's rise to power and his decline in terms of a life cycle, and is one of many that responded to fears of a French invasion in the summer of 1801, and in 1803.
