Nap omnipotent, or the acme of arrogance and presumption

This image is one of a series depicting the events that led to Napoleon's eventual failure in his Russian Campaign. An envoy from Alexander I of Russia (l.) meets with Napoleon (r.) under the center swag of an ornate canopy. This tent is located in the countryside at the site of a French camp. There Napoleon and the envoy are joined by French soldiers, center, right, and left, and by Russian soldiers on the far left. Negotiations for peace have failed and the envoy acknowledges that they must take their chances on the battlefield and leave the outcome up to God. In response Napoleon brags that he will have victory over Russia. Napoleon's secretary records the meeting at his desk and comments that Napoleon's pride is "un peu trop...a great deal." Nap nearly nab'd, or a retreating jump just in time

Bonaparte and a French officer escape from the rear window of a Russian farmhouse. Their escape route lands them directly into a laundry tub full of water. In this satire Napoleon is shown mid-leap; one foot leaves the window sill while the other heads for his water landing. The officer who accompanies him waits in the open window and exclaims "Vite courez mon Empereur. Ce Diable de Cossack dey spoil our dinner!!!" In their quick departure they knock several flower pots from the window ledge and startle the pigs and fowl in the fenced-in yard. They have also alerted the kitchen maid to their escape. To the left of the scene a Cossack rides close to the farm yard. Other Cossacks on horseback ride in the distance. Bonaparte and a French officer escape from the rear window of a Russian farmhouse. Death: Brother Boney well never despair, a trusty friend I have found in you. Kill plunder and burn and destroy and deal desolation around. Then gaily lets push round the glass. We'll sing and we'll riot and revel and I'm sure we shall have on our side our very good friend here the Devil! Rum te iddidy - iddidy The Devil: Believe me friend Death you are right although I am an ugly old fellow. When mischief is getting afloat O there I am jolly and mellow.
