About
Vision
The vision of the Digital Library of Rhode Island (DLORI) is to build a diverse, broad, and inclusive digital collection that documents the cultural heritage of Rhode Island’s past, present, and future.
Mission
The Digital Library of Rhode Island (DLORI) brings together the collections of Rhode Island’s cultural heritage institutions to foster learning, exploration, and understanding of the state’s rich and complex history.
Collection Statement
The Digital Library of Rhode Island (DLORI) actively seeks collections that represent the diverse experiences and perspectives of those who have made this geographic area their home or contributed to the rich tapestry of the area’s history, culture, and current experience. The project strives to gather materials from across the area and throughout its history, with the goal of presenting a comprehensive and multi-dimensional collection from a variety of institutions that represent the many voices that have contributed to and shaped the current state of Rhode Island.
DLORI will initially aggregate metadata from established institutional collections currently hosted online. The inaugural collection has been curated to be inclusive in its presentation of race and ethnicity, religion and belief, economic status, educational achievement, and gender. The selection of materials will be conducted through a transparent and rigorous process, with consideration to presenting a balanced collection of materials that meet the DLORI’s technical and metadata standards, and be constrained only by the availability of digitized collections that meet these criteria for inclusion.
