Engraved caricature (published April 3rd, 1791 by Fores after Landeman); French officers trying with difficulty to teach infantry and musket evolutions to rows of Turkish soldiers, sultan (Selim III) looking on in foreground; accompanied by original wash drawing for the engraved caricature. Landmann (Landeman?) was professor of artillery and fortification at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich from 1777 to 1815; he also held an appointment at the Royal Military School in Paris.
