Count de Peltzer, a Prussian officer, was due to marry Charlotte de Benskow on June 20, 1778, but was called away from Berlin to fight with his regiment against the Austrians. She followed him accompanied by her mother and brother, and came across him in an inn at Herstadt where he had been taken after being wounded in a sally.
