Original pencil sketch signed and dated by Woodville; mounted Egyptian lancer, holding lance, wearing fez, on rearing horse, facing right; signed dedication below (left), "Lygrove, 26th July 1896" and (right): "To Mrs. C. Jacoby from her devoted friend, R. Caton Woodville". This drawing and a companion piece entitled 'Dervish Chief' were gifts of the artist to Mrs. C. Jacoby, wife of Charles Theodore Jacoby of Lyegrove House, Gloucestershire on July 26th, 1896.
