Ink note on verso: 'Outside the main gate of the imperial palace, Tokyo, Japan. No one uses this gate but the Emperor. All people passing him bow. This depicts a defeated returned Jap officer paying his respects. Painted Dec. 3, 1945.' Gift of Gail Caddell, 2015. Caddell trained in a topographical unit at Mitchell Field, Long Island, NY.
