This is not a dragoon despite the title; French dragoons wore green jackets. This is possibly either a mounted member of the Paris National or Honour Guard but more probably some type of Gendarme given the buff leather accoutrements, buff breeches and the wearing of the lanyard at the shoulder. The grenade emblem on the horse furniture has also been misinterpreted as a fleur-de-lys. London, Parker, 1964.
