Brown University Theatre presents The Brown Dance Ensemble 2002 Spring Concert
This concert was part of the 100th anniversary season of Sock and Buskin. New Works/World Traditions, directed by Michelle Bach-Coulibaly was featured in Bach-Coulibaly's "Tani" and "Flamma Flamma." Dance Extension, directed by Julie Adams Strandberg appeared in Strandberg's " "Dimensions," Danny Buraceski's "Buraceski Etude," Donna Jewell's "Madame Sand," Carla Maxwell's "Limon Etude," and Jack Cole's "Happy Endings Every Time." This latter piece was reconstructed by Danny Buraczeski on students from dance programs at four Rhode Island Colleges: Brown, Rhode Island College, Providence College, and Roger Williams University, and the dancers appeared on the concerts of each of the colleges. The 4-Colleges Dance Company appeared at the May 3rd matinee. The reconstruction was made possible through a program that gave a grant to each state to reconstruct a dance. Because of the small size of RI, instead of competing for the grant, the colleges came together with the knowledge that they would receive the grant. Guest artist Gleb Lyamenhoff, from Festival Ballet of Rhode Island, and alumna Laura Bennett '92 appeared in the "Dimension's" duet originally performed in 1983 by Julie Adams Strandberg and Winthrop Corey, founder and artistic director of Festival Ballet. The student choreographers for this show were: Jonathan Martin, Courtney Rowe, Ryan Smith, Kyle Shepard. The alumni choreographer and the dances in which they performed for this show were: Wendy Rein '99 (as part of RCJ Dance) This concert was part of the 100th anniversary season of Sock and Buskin.
