Tirailleur Français, et chevau leger de l'armée du pacha de Rhodes. - evolutions of French mounted riflemen
On the left of the image, a grotesqued French soldier awkwardly rides a donkey onto the battlefield. The scrawny French soldier is so jostled by his ride, that he fumbles his rifle and shoots into the air. A Turkish soldier triumphantly approaches from the right side of the image. Unlike the Frenchman, he is not grotesqued. Instead, he sits heroically astride a hearty white horse. One arm of the Turkish figure is raised and poised to throw a spear at the French soldier.
