'Portrait of Gaspard de Coligny, Admiral of France; half-length figure turned to left, wearing richly adorned armour, holding a mace in his right hand, his left hand on his hip; on the left, a gauntlet and a helmet on a table; behind him a curtain on the right and view through a window on the left, where a female personification of Victory is holding a palm leaf and a laurel wreath; in oval frame with strapwork and lettered cartouche above; to the left a personification of Piety, to the right Charity; in the lower part, a representation of St Bartholomew's Day massacre, with on the right a group of soldiers throwing Coligny's body through a window. 1573' -- British Museum.
