A review of the new, grand, army

Napoleon stands in the center of this image that represents the evil genii of war. He stands in a confident pose and with his gloved hand points at a pile of cannon balls in the right foreground, labeled, "Forse, meat Balls for the Lads of Paris." He is flanked by Plunder, a ragged Spanish don on his right, and by a savage figure who brandishes a large dripping knife and carries a noose. These two figures are identified in an inscription under the image as, "Capt. of Starved Banditty of the Alps, Ad Camp. The aghast Emperor immediately behind Napoleon, Death (r.) and the Devil (l.) stand to direct his actions. This figure group is presided over by a the demon of war appearing in a flash of smoke and light. French soldiers stand in the distance; those on the right side of the image carry mismatched weapons and shout "Vive L'Empereur!"
