The downfall of Despotism, or the beloved & legitimate petticoat maker on his marrow bones!
British Museum catalogue: Ferdinand VII, wearing the customary slashed tunic and breeches with ruff and cloak, kneels abjectly at the feet of two Spanish officers...A chain is attached to his right wrist. The leading officer tramples on a realistic statue of a monk symbolizing the Inquisition, which he has decapitated, and he stands over Ferdinand, sword in hand...A Spanish don behind the King sternly holds his shoulder, while the second officer holds another fetter. The room is an oratory-cabinet, with a Gothic chair ornamented by crosses, and the carved figure of a monk. Above a Gothic panelling with figures of saints is a wall-map, torn...The torn portion is on the floor...On the wall is a bust portrait of the Virgin.
