Baltimore, March 7, 1862. According to Ellinger, p. 28, Cola is one of the pseudonymns used by N.G. Ridgely. Apparently first edition of this poem (dated March 7, 1862). Later versions (dated April 1, 1862 and type-signed "Le Diable Baiteux", another of N.G. Ridgely's pseudonyms) expanded the text to one ten-line and six fifteen-line stanzas (cf. Brown University's Hay Broadsides copy 1-SIZE HB 6922 MD and 1-SIZE HB17064 MD) and uses for one of the editions a different title: "Our opinion; a hit a these times."
