The March/April 2000 issue of the Brown Alumni Magazine carried this brief but lively account of the University's acquisition of the Doctor Bob collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, and personal memorabilia belonging to Dr. Robert Holbrook Smith (1879-1950), whose meeting with William Wilson ("Bill W.") in 1935 led to the deep personal friendship and fifteen-year-long partnership as co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, the self-help movement that has brought sobriety to millions of members worldwide. The article includes an image of Dr. Bob's coffee pot and The Big Book.
