Merritt, having returned from New York too late, regrets missing Baker in Boston. Merritt will return to New York to see about an offer for a "situation," and will not be able to visit Sandwich. He hopes to resolve obligations to Baker with the new situation, and suggests to Baker, upon his next visit to Boston, to call on Merritt's father.
