One of a pair of hand-colored aquatints; a gallant Russian soldier on horseback chases French soldiers across an open plain. As he catches up to his French quarry, the Russian impales them on a long spear and tosses them on the back of his horse. The French soldiers are depicted as attenuated figures, with torn clothing and haggard expressions. In contrast the Russian is robust and fully outfitted in his uniform. The image is printed on a small sheet of pale blue paper. The hand coloring is detailed and the colors are still quite fresh.
