Old bumblehead the 18th trying on the Napoleon boots--or, preparing for the Spanish campaign

Seated in a wheelchair throne, the enormously obese Louis XVIII (center r.) attempts to stuff his large gouty feet into a pair of slender boots left by Napoleon. As he struggles in effort, his crown falls from his head into the waiting arms of Napoleon's heir, the former King of Rome, who reaches out to grab it. In the distance, a guillotine (l.) hovers as an ominous sign. Old Bumblehead the 18th Trying On the Napoleon Boots -- or, Preparing for the Spanish Campaign

Colored engraved caricature by and after Cruikshank; 'Louis XVIII, in a landscape suggesting the foot-hills of the Pyrenees, sits in profile to the left in a wheeled chair, vainly trying to thrust a swathed and swollen leg into a jack-boot. As he leans back, tugging with boot-hooks, his crown falls from his head. Napoleon's son, the duc de Reichstadt (ex-King of Rome), dressed in Napoleon's famous uniform of the chasseurs of the Guard, but with childish curls on his shoulders, stands behind the chair (right) raising his arms to catch the crown. He says: The Boots wont fit you Old Bourbon—I'll try them on by- & by. The King exclaims: Oh! God of St Louis assist me for tho' I have had my heels well rub'd with Bears grease yet I'm afraid I shall find it a d—d awkward job— His other gouty leg rests on a cushion, with a boot standing beside it. From the clouds on the extreme left emerges a guillotine topped by a bonnet rouge' -- British Museum Colored engraved caricature by and after Cruikshank; 'Louis XVIII, in a landscape suggesting the foot-hills of the Pyrenees, sits in profile to the left in a wheeled chair, vainly trying to thrust a swathed and swollen leg into a jack-boot. Old blutcher beating the Corsican big drum

General Blücher stands in the center of the image his arms and legs are spread wide to reveal his imposing size. Napoleon, dwarfed to childish proportions, is slung around Blücher's neck as if he were a large drum. Blücher stares down at Napoleon with furious intent, while he whips Napoleon's bare backside with a bundle of sticks and beats his head with a club. Napoleon screams in pain and in fright at such treatment. A music sheet titled "The Down fall of Paris" lies open under Blücher's legs to indicate the tune he plays on his new drum. Behind them the Prussian troops arrive and beat the French viciously. While the Prussian soldiers celebrate their victory by erecting flags on the battle field and on the top of the large crenelated tower inscribed "Paris" (upper right), the French flee in panic.
